Kids Care Dental & Orthodontics Supports Vaccine Efforts

In light of the increasingly alarming COVID-19 numbers in our state, the California Department of Consumer Affairs issued an emergency waiver allowing more health care professionals, including dentists, to help administer the COVID vaccine. Kids Care Dental and Orthodontics applauds these efforts and plans to assist as soon as our team is able to complete the required training. You can read our full statement below:

KIDS CARE DENTAL & ORTHODONTICS SUPPORTS EMERGENCY ORDER WAIVING RESTRICTIONS ON COVID-19 VACCINE ADMINISTRATION

[The following statement may be attributed in whole or in part to Janet Widmann, president and CEO of KCD&O.]

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2021) – Kids Care Dental and Orthodontics endorses the California Department of Consumer Affairs’ emergency waiver permitting licensed dentists to administer FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccinations. KCD&O is actively preparing to work with public health officials on this urgent initiative.

Our team of 240 dentists and clinical assistants across more than 25 locations are eager to assist in efforts to help meet the goal of vaccinating all California’s health care workers and long-term care residents – an estimated 3 million people – by the end of this month.

Dental care is health care, and our dentists are trained to administer injections and do so routinely. Dentists are highly skilled in anatomy, pathology, pharmacology and more. KCD&O believes deploying dental care providers to assist in California’s fight against COVID-19 an excellent use of our state’s available health care resources. We feel this emergency waiver is an appropriate and welcome addition to the response to the virus.

KCD&O’s offices are equipped with proper personal protective equipment and medical grade air filtration systems to ensure our locations could serve as safe vaccination sites, and if given the opportunity, testing sites. It is our desire to be as helpful as we are able, not only to our 150,000 patients and their families, but to our entire community. The KCD&O team plans to complete all the required training in order to begin administering vaccines as soon as possible.

We look forward to additional efforts, including legislative ones, that might address ways dental care providers can play an increased role in rapidly and safely vaccinating as many Californians as possible.
